Yellow Brick House: The Cause 2007

Yellow Brick House is a unique emergency shelter in York Region that provides outreach services to women and their children. It is unique in that it offers services in over 28 languages to meet diverse needs. Yellow Brick House provides eight separate and distinct programs to over 3,000 women and children annually.

These programs, such as the ‘Let’s Talk’ Child Witness program, have proven critical and effective in assisting and empowering violence free lives. The busy 21-bed facility is frequently at or beyond capacity.

The funds raised through the CTK event will be allocated to the highest priority needs of YBH in the areas of:

  • Supportive counseling
  • Information and advocacy
  • Referral services (legal and medical)
  • Practical assistance (basic needs)
  • Emergency shelter and transitional housing for women and their children

Through our involvement Chicks That Kick hopes to increase
awareness of violence against women and children. We are committed to helping reduce the alarming statistics that surround domestic violence and seek to support education initiatives. Our goal is to promote an outlook of equality for all persons.

The Need 2007

YBH has a funding base of $2.3 million. Each year, Yellow Brick House is required to raise a substantial amount of the annual budget to maintain and meet the changing needs of women and their children. The short-fall, approximately $600,000, is raised annually through a variety of resource development activities, including grants, corporate and individual donations and fundraising events; like Chicks That Kick.
